Children’s book week – Recycling and rubbish

Our book today

Our book today

In celebration of children’s book week, we are having a monkey book week and it’s been going mental with all our preparations!

We’ve been book buying, chocolate eating and of course reading to bring our 5 favourite books in no particular order. We just love them all and have voted them against the following monkey criteria –

1. Did we poop ourselves laughing after reading the book?

2. Did we want to play the parts in the book?

3. Could adding monkey to the title have improved the story at all?

4. Did we like the nice pictures?

5 Did we learn anything? (Mammy made us add this last one – She said this was important for our monkey minds so we’ve added it as i am a wonderful monkey boy who does everything my wonderful mammy tells me – quick millie have a look – has she gone? Phew – right back to the monkey criteria)

6 Are we going to add it to the monkey bookcase?

our monkey book shelf

our monkey book shelf

The monkey shelf –  first book to review is the one we wrote a little about on our blog post the other day – what happens to our rubbish when it goes in the bin? Well this book was fabidab as it ticked a lot of the monkey boxes above –

What we learnt about rubbish –

this is where all the magic starts - not all rubbish wants to go on the journey though - look at mammy's yoghurt sticking to the lid and refusing to go down the chute!

The bin is like the magic tunnel in alice and wonderland – once rubbish falls down it, it goes on a very very long and exciting journey…..da dda daaaaaaaaaaa. Now monkey is a well trained  rubbish hunting professional so he is allowed to do this next bit. You reading this shouldnt do it as you are not as professionally trained as monkey and you could get really smelly and get ill cos rubbish can be dirty and you shouldnt touch it. The men in gloves and funny suits come to take it away on their noisy trucks that sometimes wake Millie up. she gets a bit cross at that as she needs her sleep she says. I am the professional reading monkey so I am cool with it….

Are you ready?

weeee here I go.....

weeee here I go…..

I soon find out that rubbish goes on a pretty long journey – it goes to be made into other things, it goes on a really large pile of rubbish in the ground to get buried, it gets burned, it goes down the drain…….it is very complicated when it disappears in the bin!

some waste gets down here and goes weeeeee all around in a circle before gurgling away

Some gets put into a box and gets collected and hoarded for years. Granny keeps her shoes in a big box as she can't bear to put them in the bin. She and the granny's in the street have a shoe sharing day as they all lived through the war and you didn't throw things out in those days

Some rubbish - like plastic bags get kept in a box where granny gets all inventinve and uses them for collecting dog poop in from her doggie, a bin liner, as a bag to keep her knitting in, to take her pack lunch to the knitting group in etc etc...

This is the kind of waste shoot like to look in! hehe

So, we do love this book as it tells you about the journey of the rubbish and we think that is a good thing as we’ve always thought that granny just likes to collect it all in her house. We are very pleased that some of the rubbish goes on its travels and it is quite an exciting journey but a bit smelly so we are pleased that it is in a book and that the book is not scratch and sniff uuurgh gross

I love the flaps as this keeps me active and interested and you get to find things out for yourself by lifting them up and that is very fun to do

Recycling is cool as we have to make things out of rubbish to be used again and again and so there is no waste which is bad for the sky and the earth

This is how we monkeys like to recycle –

our monkey method of recycling - kettle box or princess tower and boat to the rescue?

Tomorrow – Monkey reviews a book about a dentist which is really really funny – no honestly – it is mega funny!!!

Till tomorrow little monkeys xx
